Norma’s Famous Sausage Rolls

Norma’s Famous Sausage Rolls begin with frozen bread dough (put in a gallon size ziploc baggie). If you plan on eating it soon, leave it out to defrost and start to rise.  If you are planning your sausage rolls for later put in the refrigerator to defrost and start to rise.
You will need a sprinkle of flour on a very clean surface… pinch some bread dough out of the baggie (1 loaf will make about 3-4 rolls). Roll the bit of dough out until very thin but not so thin it breaks when you try to work with it.
Sprinkle some cheese into the center of the rolled out dough, start layering your ingredients (don’t overfill it or you won’t be able to get your sausage roll closed).

Sausage Roll Step 01
Decide what you want in your individual sausage roll (these are best when personalized).  Ingredient ideas:  sausage (obviously) you can use Italian, breakfast or turkey), pepperoni (because it’s delicious), onions, peppers (bell, banana, sweet) sprinkle come Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder add the Pizza sauce or marinara sauce and CHEESE!

Sausage Roll Step 02

Gently pull the sides of your sausage roll dough together to close the bottom and hold the ingredients all enclosed.  Place on a foil lined (spray with non-stick cooking spray) seam side down.  Shape into a “loaf” and cut a couple slits in the top of the roll to “vent”.  You can also stuff a bit more cheese in the holes because… well, why not!  Brush with some garlic butter and sprinkle some Parmesan cheese.

Sausage Roll Step 03

Bake your sausage roll at 350 until golden brown and bubbly.
